Profile

Emanuela Gatto was born in Rome in 1978, in 2003 she received a M.Sc. degree in Chemistry (summa cum laude) at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and in 2007 a Ph.D. in Chemistry, from the same University. In 2007 she has been a Marie Curie fellowship at the Division of Applied Physics of the University of Linköping (Sweden). In 2008 she had a postDoc position for one year at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and since 2009 she is Researcher of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Science and Technologies of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In 2011 she was visiting researcher at the University of Coimbra. In 2014 she received the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor.

Research Activity

The research activity of Emanuela Gatto is focused on the study of electronic and optical properties of bio-inspired molecular systems both in solution and on surface, by combination of spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The study of photoinduced electron transfer properties of peptides on surface has been the subject of invited talks at international conferences (EMRS 2013, 2016, 2017, Symposium: "Bioinspired and Biointegrated Materials as Frontiers Nanomaterials") and University seminars. She was co-organizer and chair of special sessions: “Biological, Biomimetic Nanomaterials, Nanostructures Photonics” within the E-MRS Fall Meeting 2016 and E-MRS Spring Meeting 2017.

Emanuela Gatto took part in several national and international projects and she was the local principal investigator of a FIRB (Future in Research) project (2013-2016).
She is currently involved in three major research lines that span the fields of peptide nanotechnology, bio-inspired DSSCs and bioplastics.
