Stefano Penna was born in Rome, Italy, on December 18, 1979. He received the B.En. and M.En. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy, in 2002 and 2005, and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications Engineering and Microelectronics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2009, funded by the  Italian Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (ISCOM).
Since 2008, he's working as a Post-doc at the Centre for the Hybrid and Organic Solar Energy of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. His activities are focused on ageing testing and encapsulation processing for the organic photovoltaic technologies, including Dye Solar Cells and polymer solar cells.
He's currently CTO and Vice-President at Dyers, the spin-off company from CHOSE / Univ. Tor Vergata focused on  processing and materials development for the organic photovoltaic technologies.

The research lines followed by Stefano are listed in the following:

  • testing and processing of materials for primary and secondary sealing of Dye Solar Cells
  • ageing and thermal testing of DSC cells for long term stability
  • UV down-converters for UV filtering in DSC and organic solar cells
  • assembly and lamination of DSC panels for glass facades application
  • solar photonics: enhancement of light trapping effects in DSC and organic solar cells via waveguiding
